-
A beta reader is one of the first people to read an unpublished draft. Your role isn't to edit grammar or rewrite scenes—it's to read as a reader and provide honest, thoughtful feedback about the story, characters, pacing, and overall experience.
-
I'm looking for detailed, constructive feedback.
Some examples include:
Which scenes kept your attention?
Were there moments you felt confused?
Did any characters feel unrealistic or inconsistent?
Were there plot holes or pacing issues?
What emotions did certain scenes make you feel?
Were there moments you loved—or didn't?
Comments like "I liked it" are appreciated, but they don't help me improve the story as much as explaining why.
-
Not at all.
You simply need to enjoy reading and be able to explain your thoughts honestly. Whether you're an avid reader, an aspiring author, or someone who just loves stories, your perspective is valuable.
-
No.
While you're welcome to point out repeated words, confusing sentences, or obvious mistakes if you notice them, your primary focus should be the reading experience—not line editing.
-
Yes.
If the story simply isn't for you, I'd much rather know than have you disappear. Honest communication is always appreciated.
-
Absolutely.
I welcome respectful criticism. My goal is to make the story stronger, so please don't feel like you need to protect my feelings. Honest feedback is far more helpful than compliments that don't reflect your actual experience.
-
Yes.
All drafts are unpublished and should remain private. Please do not share chapters, screenshots, plot details, character information, or download links with anyone else without permission.
-
I'd love that!
Reliable beta readers may be invited back for future projects and receive early access to new chapters or manuscripts.
-
Yes.
Most beta reading opportunities will have a reading deadline. This helps me stay on schedule with revisions and future drafts.
Before I send you any material, I'll let you know the expected turnaround time. If you don't think you'll be able to finish by that date, that's completely okay—just let me know so I can offer the spot to another reader.
Life happens, and I understand that. Communication is far more important than perfection.
